Visual Vibes: Inle Lake, Myanmar

Our 12hour affair with Inle Lake includes some interesting sights, a local market, a random Filipina and a hot smoggy day. We’re supposed to stay for 2 days in town but we extended our stay in Yangon, so our time in Nyaung Shwe was cut short. We still decided to continue with the trip as we really wanted to see what the fuzz is about. Experiencing this place on a short time made our experiences limited to what a normal tourist would do hence visiting some lake shore villages and seeing what’s really out there became impossible.

Inle Lake has been gaining a lot of attention for SEA travelers and is becoming a big stop for all kinds of travelers in Myanmar. Photos below will hopefully let you witness on what I am talking about. This place is obviously satisfying to the eyes, may it be for digital visuals or your own personal photo stocking memories. The day to day scenarios, the boatman doing what they do best – balancing their boats and paddling through the muddy river using their legs. Yes, it sort of became a balancing act that is synonymous to beautiful images all throughout the day.

The fascination for some virtually satisfying and Instagram-able scenarios are there, I tell you. The experience however isn’t striking as what I have expected. Maybe I expected too much? Or maybe because 12 hours isn’t enough to experience what I REALLY wanted to experience in the first place. But then again, this place has its own beauty which marked its spot on the Banana Pancake Trail. The availability of traveler’s necessities and the growing numbers of dorm accommodations in the area seem to also sign an ever growing influx of tourism.

If you’re wishing to move up a notch of taking an adventure in the Southeast Asia, a visit to this famous lake might help you score that interesting where-have-you-been-to question. As for me, this place doesn’t made the experience in general, but I am happy we still did it. And the photos I’ve snapped, I believe did some justice which made me so happy seeing the outcome. Never thought traversing the lake on such a smoggy day can produce these photos. Oh well, here’s a feast for the eyes.

On this version of my Visual Vibes series, I’ve curated some of my favorites Inle Lake Photos from hundred of snaps throughout this leg. Here’s a post showcasing our experience in visuals. Enjoy!
